5 Characteristics of a Godly Woman
God created women with strength, equality, and influence. Eve was Adam's partner in everything, and they ruled Eden side-by-side. Women were made in God's image just like men, reflecting God's nature through the unique qualities that make them women. Be proud to be a woman. God made you to be exactly who you are.
There are many women throughout the Bible who can encourage us towards new growth. Their character shines brightly through the Scriptures. What are the characteristics of these godly women that we can emulate in our own lives?
A Love For God
The most important characteristic of a godly woman is a deep love for God. Mary, the mother of Jesus, personified this trait. When the angel came to her and told her that she would bear Jesus by way of the Holy Spirit, she instantly agreed. She didn't doubt, and she didn't ask questions. Her sincere love for the Lord led her to trust Him without hesitation. Let the same love for God influence everything you do.
Courage
Mary also showed great courage in her acceptance of the Lord's calling on her life. It's hard to put in perspective, but we must remember that she was only 14 years old at the time! That would be a scary situation to be in at any age, but especially for a young girl like that. But Mary's trust in God gave her great courage, and she became the mother of Jesus, our Savior.
Strength
Mary's faith also led her to profound strength as a child of God. She raised Jesus and loved Him deeply. She watched Him grow from her little baby all the way into adulthood. But then she had to face the most trying moment of her life. She was there when Jesus was crucified. She had to watch that terrible thing happen to her beloved son. She relied on God to carry her through, showing the depth and power of her character.
Faith
Mary Magdalene, a follower of Jesus, is also a phenomenal example of the power of faith in a godly woman's life. She was dismissed and criticized by the religious elite of her time because she had a reputation. But Jesus looked past her former sins and offered her new life in Him. His unconditional love towards her inspired her to a life of inspiring faith, and we should all follow her example.
Hope
Martha, the sister of Lazarus, is an incredible illustration of hope. She suffered a terrible tragedy when her brother Lazarus died. But even after his death, her hope in Jesus was unwavering. At his arrival, she runs out to meet him, saying to him, "Even now I know that God will give you whatever you ask" (John 11:22). Her hope in Jesus could not be swayed, and it resulted in the raising of her brother Lazarus from the dead.
Conclusion
All of these women demonstrated godly traits that make them inspirations for us all. There are many more examples throughout the Scriptures of women whose character was rooted in faith. We can embody these same godly characteristics in our own lives, and be women on a mission for God's Kingdom.
