God's Promise of Eternal Life and What it Means For You

You've likely heard it said so many times that "life is fleeting and only temporary." Many have used this sort of mindset as an excuse to do whatever they want to do whenever they want to do it, despite the negative consequences. But the Bible tells us something different! God says that we have eternal life. Our life now has eternal ramifications and not just temporary ones.

1 John 2:24-24 says, "So you must remain faithful to what you have been taught from the beginning. If you do, you will remain in fellowship with the Son and with the Father. And in this fellowship, we enjoy the eternal life he promised us" (NLT). Here we see it clearly stated that eternal life is ours for the taking when we remain committed to our faith in Christ. But what does this promise of eternal life mean for you?

Your Eternal Destiny is Secure

We face many hardships in life, but we must always remember that none of them can remove God's promise for our eternal destiny. God is mightier than anything that stands in your way! In John 10:28, Jesus says, "I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one can snatch them away from me" (NLT). When you remain in Him, Jesus safeguards His promise to you. His promises never fail!

You Will Meet God Face-to-Face

The last couple chapters of the Bible paint us an astonishing and beautiful picture of what eternity with God will look like. Revelation 21:3-4 says," "Look, God's home is now among his people! He will live with them, and they will be his people. God himself will be with them. He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever" (NLT). When that day comes, we will know God face-to-face! He will reach out and wipe our tears away with His very hand. We will be able to experience our relationship with Him in a brand-new way and utterly profound way. He will remove all of the pain and hardships of the world so that we can enjoy our time with Him uninhibited.

This Life Prepares Us For The Next

Knowing that we have eternal life, how are we to live now? What does God expect of us? This life is simply preparation for the next. Through the Great Commission (see Matthew 28:16-20), God calls us to win as many souls as possible for Christ on our way to our eternal home. He wants as many as possible to share with us a forever filled with His presence and abundant blessings!

Conclusion

God made you to last forever. He wants more than anything for you to enter His eternal Kingdom. He desires to guide you through this life, preparing you for that incredible future at every step of your journey. God is reaching out His hand. Will you walk with Him today?
